What sort of clothing do I wear?

Layers are good, you want the easy option of adding and taking off a layer. Have a look at the activities you will be involved in during your boating experience.

How much space is available for luggage?

We recommend you pack soft and pack light. Soft bags will be easier to maneuver and easier to fit into storage.

How do I get to the boat?

Before you depart, we will give you the precise location of where to meet your Captain and he will take you to the boat.

Do experiences only run on certain dates? Can I choose different dates?

Our experiences depart on specific dates. You can check the availability directly on the site and instantly book. If you do not find the dates that suit, we can prepare a custom travel experience. Please get in touch.

 

About the experience

Can I have the same experience in a different location?

Yes. The experience is about what is on offer in the area. If the new location has something similar to offer, we can run the experience on a boat over there. Just send us your request in advance and we’ll look into it for you.

Can anyone go on an experience?

All are welcome. You can enjoy a specially crafted boating experience, whether you are travelling solo, in a couple, a group or with family. It’s an exciting way to discover new parts of the world from a new angle.

What's a typical day like with Board a Boat?

Meet your Captain at the boat

Short briefing to familiarise you with the boat

Head out for a few hours on the water

Stop off for lunch or enjoy lunch on board

Get back on the water for the afternoon should you want to; alternatively, stop off on land for an adventure

Arrive at your destination by evening

Moor the boat at a pontoon or in a bay, then enjoy your evening meal

How involved can I be?

Experiences are as interactive as you like! Your Captain will be happy to ‘show you the ropes’ or you are more than welcome to just relax and observe.

Are there any additional costs to be aware of?

Anything that is not included will be listed on your experience page. There is sometimes a cash box or ‘kitty’ which you will be asked to contribute to for any shared expenses.

What if I don’t want to stick to the suggested route?

You are welcome to ask the Captain to take an alternative route and he will endeavour to accommodate you, as long as it is safe.

 

About the captains

Am I going to be safe with my Captain?

All capatains are very experinced and used to taking guests sailing. The captain will run through a briefing before you set sail, and ensure you feel reassured and are familiar with the boat. Captains know how to handle the boat you are going out on. They also know the area and the waters well.

Are the Captains friendly?

All Captains, have received the ‘Board a Boat stamp of approval’. Each Captain has a character of their own and can bring something different to your time on the water, but most importantly they are all friendly!

Can the Captain speak English?

Yes, we’ve spoken to all our Captains, in English. If not, we will mention it!

What does the Captain do?

Your Captain drives your boat

He/she makes sure you're always safe

He/she is your local guide and can provide knowledge about the area and suggest their personal favourites.

Can get you involved with handling a boat or sailing

Whats the difference between a Skipper and a Captain?

This is the same person, just a different term.

 

Cancelations

Can I cancel my booking?

We have a cancelation policy on all of our experiences. The policy may vary from one to the other so please check on your chosen experience.

What happens if the weather isn't good?

We’ll endeavour to send you a weather forecast close to your departure date. But you never know how the weather is going to turn. If the Captain says it’s not safe to leave, we’ll give you as much warning as possible and we’ll make other arrangements for you.

Can I change the date after I’ve booked?

It all depends on the provider availability. We we will try our best to make the change and most providers are quite accommodating.

 

Safety

Is it safe to go out on a boat?

Yes, boating is safe, as long as you listen to the captain! Boats have all the necessary safety equipment and Captains have very good knowledge of the local waters and safety procedures. The captain will give a safety brief before setting off.

Can I invite other people on board, during my experience?

Each boat has a maximum capacity for safety reasons. Select the number of people to bring you want on an experience.

Do I need to know anything about boats?

No! You don’t have to know anything about boats, your professional Captain will guide you through your first steps on the boats
